come to me baby

so i just put in an order for a refurbished 80 hour TiVo unit - it should be here in 3-5 days!! and because i feel the need to document it (because I couldn't find it out there) - evidently, with the new home media option - it is possible to avoid using a phone line for updates, instead you can use a wireless network with broadband. (i'm happily typing on my porch as i write this).

anyhow - the initial set-up does require a phone line, but evidently you can do it and a friends house, and then call customer service, switch the address - and that's that. (or so the tivo sales rep expained) i'm so darn excited. yay for wedding cash!

and as i am on the subject anyway... i can't wait to buy the oreilly guide to tivo hacking that will be coming out later this summer.

hmm.

well a brief update on my well being - i'm not 100% but i'm up and around. worked yesterday. ate a real dinner. that sort of thing.

waiting for the other shoe

i came down with random abdominal cramps in the middle of the night last night. i’ve never really felt pain like that... by six when i was in tears - jaimie insisted that we go to the er. i also suppose that after seeing two of my best friends go through appendicitis in the last five years – i’m a bit paranoid.

ever since the wedding i've also been waiting for the physical meltdown... i've always gotten sick directly following all major events in my life - i was surprised when i made it through the honeymoon unscathed.

so anyhow - we spent 4 worthless hours in the er this morning – blood was drawn, tests were performed - and they couldn’t find anything... so i’m supposed to just see what happens. they did give me some vicodin – so at least i've been sleeping. but here i sit - still in pain (but not as bad) - waiting. ugh.

go-go gadget dancer

well damn - i did it. i dressed up in a silly outfit, batted my eyelashes, drank some liquor and shook my ass. (what your average party girl pays to do on a friday night).

but let me tell you - when you are on a 7 foot catwalk, it is hot. very hot. and dancing for 3 hours straight is fine if you are an aerobic goddess, but it's pretty tough for a cubie-sittin', laptop lovin' geek. AND to top it all off - when you have to dip your knee sock down to get tips, when you are 7 feet in the air - your thighs get very VERY sore the next day.

but the dj had some brilliant moments, some very cool people turned out to support us, i made some suprisingly decent cash, and i had fun too. i also was tipped a gap gift card (haha! we'll see if there's actually any money on it), and the bartender - who also owns a tattoo parlor - offered to pierce my belly button for free.

and because a lot of people thought i was a bit nuts for participating in such nonsense... i will note - for the record - that it didn't seem demeaning at all. it was all good-natured fun. and i was safe as safe can be. and yes kids, i did wear my wedding ring - and still made tips.

it also seems as if i've been invited back as a regular - but i don't know if my 9-5 self can take it. we'll see...

semaphoria - a - go - go

so it seems that i have found myself a new gig for sunday night... due to memorial day weekend vacationing, there seems to be a shortage of go - go dancers in portland. so it seems that i will be dancing at the cobalt lounge's sunday school - this sunday evening - cover, $5. we will be up on catwalks, dressed as catholic school girls.

for the record - it is a true go-go gig, not a p-town stripping thing like the sinferno at dante's. it'll just be hot chicks, in fun themed clothing, dancing and drinking... and ... you get to stuff money into the tops of my knee high socks. too much fun - it's gonna be a riot. (thanks to my friend go-go jo-jo for hooking me up with the opportunity).

just gorgeous dah-ling

(and these are just the digital!)

i just saw my official wedding photos for the first time - i can't stop smiling, my heart is all a-flutter and i don't want to do anything but stare at them. endlessly. this afternoon i am buying the red-haired photo goddess as many lime rickeys as she can drink, and then some. OOOOHHHH!!! exciting!!!!!

life goes on

so yeah. i laughed (a lot). and cried. the scooby gang rode off into the sunset without us. the buffy finale was fantastic - it brought out the best in all of it's characters. the writing was perfect in it's old school way. they killed off enough of the main cast to avoid being hokey - but kept enough to make you feel that the heroes got out in the nick of time.

buffy has meant a lot to me over the years - i still can't watch the episodes that focus on her mother's death. there is a lot of truth hidden beneath layers of kung-fu slayage and bad (but oh so good) one-liners. i'm just glad that the series chose to end - where it needed to - not with a whimper but with a bang.

tv junkie

tonight, one of my addictions will come to an end - freeing up countless hours to read, or garden, or download infinite tunes from the apple music store.

however, i do find it lamentable that i do not have another whedon show to replace buffy. i was a huge fan of firefly - which is now being rumored to be made into a movie, or at least be published on dvd. i was pissed when it was cancelled. and while david boreanz would be on my "list" (if the big guy and i did such silly things) - i never took to angel, the series.

but alas - tonight the apocalypse comes yet again to sunnydale. (salon has coverage.)

things you should read this week

wedding guide: part I, fifteen fights to have before you get engaged. personally - i think that dating for nearly a decade was a great idea. strangely enough, i can't imagine having been married any sooner. anyhow, a great article at the morning news.

where's my rocket car - a very cool yearly zine put together by the fantabulous nerdygirl. designed by the magpie. contributed to by several very cool people. this year's theme? creativity. hopefully i won't be getting married near submission time next year.

long weekend

my father is in the midst of building his dream house, and is consequently moving out of his current house. this weekend i found myself faced with the monumental task of sifting through the boxes of my childhood. i found the wrapping paper from my baby shower, all of my books (from dr. suess to sweet valley high), all of the costumes of halloween past, and all of the love letters from every boyfriend since jr. high.

it was physically and mentally draining - and i kept too much. did i need the brown mug with the mushrooms on it? the ladybug magnets? is their value in keeping that christening gown if you're not even sure if it belonged to you father or your brother... especially when there's no one left to sort out those facts?

what do i do with the handmade doll that my mother made me for when I had tubes put in my ears when i was three? it's dirty, and the hair is finally coming loose - but it does have that pink heart cross stitched on the chest. we don't have room for storing everything that i'd like to - and it would just sit in boxes anyway. but i still can't bring myself to throw away a piece of family history.

(insert deep sigh here)

and so monday morning rolls around and i'm just beat.

Sunday, May 18

creations

we had a really great experience with most of our vendors for the wedding - including our florist. we used creations by the flower girls - and solara, the owner - was fab-u-lous. she was fairly priced, sweet as pie, incredibly responsive, and the flowers were stunning.

i was thrilled to find photos from our wedding featured on their site. check out the first seven shots - that's us. i was so pleased with their work - the highest recommendation for any portland brides or event planners out there!

weekend plans

i'd like to try this on our new bar-b-que... or maybe this. or maybe visit this for the first time this year. if the weather would only cooperate.

Thursday, May 15

flourescent lights

back to the daily grind. everyone keeps calling me mrs. keller. is that me? strange. must get coffee.

Wednesday, May 14

sigh.

my fellow honeymooner has returned to work - as i do tomorrow. i'm ready to return to my routine, and i have some interesting work in the weeks ahead - but i can't help be melancholy about the end of the honeymoon.

today is the second summer day in portland - yesterday was a stunning 75 degrees and i had my first pint of the season whilst sitting on the patio at the big guy's bar. my garden is calling yet i am intimidated by the decisions that are required by such a project.

in technology news - my ibook is not recieving power for some inexplicable reason and so i am stuck on the crappy pc (sorry dear) in the cold cold basement. my ibook is awfully troubled as of late, which is discouraging... and my cell phone appears to be radically malfunctioning as well - making it so that when i recieve or make a call - you can hear me, but i hear nothing.... so i am incommunicado at best.

hopefully reading a good book in the sunshine will cure some of this...

update my ibook was diagnosed with having it's second malfunctioning power cord. i am on cord #3 in the last year! for shame apple, from what i've read - this is not an uncommon problem.

Monday, May 12

my third eye

on the eve of the wedding my father took me aside and presented me with a box - inside was the only gift i had truly been waiting for - it is a pendant in the shape of a square celtic knot from the book of kells - and in the middle sits the diamond from my mother's engagement ring. i haven't even taken it off yet...

dad - thank you, it's the most beautiful thing i've ever owned.

(and as a side note - bling bling! I've been wearing more ice than a polar bear.)

(and as a much sadder side note: the day after mother's day is the anniversary of my mom's death... it's nice to wear her so close to me on this occassion)

Sunday, May 11

things purchased today with aid of gift cards

1) a spectacular dust buster
2) an ironing board
3) sunglasses
4) an x-box (partial payment)
5) the little cord that connects my ipod to my new car stereo :)

marital discoveries

today whilst making sandwiches the big guy and i discovered that after nine years we had each been buying and making sandwiches for each other with old school mayo, when we are both actually fans of miracle whip. NINE YEARS! jesus. if these are the things that are mysteriously revealed with the sacred act of marriage.... what's next?!

Friday, May 9

um, yeah. i'm married!

so it happened... the big day. and a week at the beach following. now i sit, in my beautiful home, with my fantastic husband - happy as happy can be.

it was beautiful. words cannot describe the elation of walking down that aisle. many people made it all come together in one flawless event. i may sum up more of the festivities in the coming days (i don't return to work until next thursday) - but no promises, as i am on my own time... but let me say this - many thanks to those who gave us love and support and time and patience.
