things we learned in kindergarten

in honor of already finding myself caught smack dab in the middle of what appears to be a sticky little political situation at work (and finding myself here through no fault of my own other than asking the wrong question) i will document some of the other shitty things that happened in the first week at some of my other high tech jobs:

1) my first task at my first web job was to build my own desk. (ikea style). i was presented with a box, a hammer, and scissors. i cut open the box with the scissors, slicing my finger at the same time. i continued to hammer and build for several hours, going through a whole roll of blood soaked paper towels. the cut did not stop bleeding for the rest of the day. i think my ex-boss still feels bad about that one.

2) at my beloved dead dot-com, before it was dying - there was an honest-to-god fist fight during my first week between an executive and one of the sales team. in the office, in the middle of the day. this too was a political situation, but that one didn't involve me, and did involve the cops.

yes james, things have been much worse.
